One Pot Green Pasta and an Honest Review of the Always Pan

I was recently gifted an Always Pan for Christmas by my husband and have been cooking with it the past few weeks. I’ve received so many inquiries and  decided to share a little review with you!

Our Place is a direct to consumer company specializing in cookware and dishware. Their ads feel like they are literally everywhere right now!  According to their promotional material, this miracle pan is supposed to replace eight pieces of cookware and save space, time and money.

The Always Pan is a ceramic non-stick pan, which many people believe is much safer than teflon.  The pan itself is a great size and weight for cooking one pot meals for 2-4 people. At 10 inches wide and ¾ inches deep, this is my ideal cooking vessel for plenty of stews, stir frys, pastas and other one pot wonders. The pan also comes with a domed lid, small steamer basket and wooden spatula that conveniently  tucks itself into the handle.  All of these items fit nicely together and come in a variety of cute colours.  The Always Pan is dishwasher-safe, but I wouldn’t say you need to run it in the dishwasher. Due to the non-stick nature of the pan, it should only take a minute or two to clean up  with some warm, soapy water.

The main drawback of the Always Pan is that it is not oven-safe. This means it will not replace a beloved roasting dish or dutch oven.

Personally I think it’s a great non-stick option to have in your repertoire but I find the price point is quite high. I say keep an eye out for sales if you are interested in picking one up. Before I had this pan, this Ikea pot was my go-to all purpose cooking vessel. Not non-stick but sturdy, useful and great for cooking a variety of dishes and a fraction of the price.

Okay now that’s out of the way, I want to share with you what I’ve made in my new beauty! This is one of my go-to last minute dinners. I'm lovingly calling this my Big Green Pasta, made with a handful of ingredients and endlessly adaptable, this dish is for those times when you feel like pasta and a salad but don’t have the energy or capacity to make both. I love how bright and fresh the kale sauce is. I love adding herbs like nettle and wild garlic in the spring, use what you have and feel free to get creative with it!

One Pot Big Green Pasta

Ingredients

1 bunch or 6 cups raw kale, cleaned and chopped

½  cup hemp hearts or toasted walnuts

¼ cup nutritional yeast

1 bunch of fresh basil

1 tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp sea salt

Zest of one lemon

½ cup pasta water

⅓ cup olive oil

400g dried pasta I love using Rummo pasta

To serve

Fresh cracked pepper

Chili flakes

Grated cheese I love the Violife Parmesan style wedge

Directions

Fill your pan with salted water and let come to a boil. Once boiled add you cleaned kale to the pan and cook quickly until bright green, remove kale and place in your blender.

Bring water up to a boil again and place your pasta in to cook. While waiting for the pasta to finish, add the hemp hearts or walnuts, garlic powder, salt, nutritional yeast, basil, lemon zest and pasta cooking water to the kale in the blender. Begin to blend the kale and slowly add the olive oil to the blender in a steady stream, blend until smooth and bright green. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.

Once pasta is cooked, drain and add back to the pan. Add your blended sauce to the cooked noodles and stir to coat pasta. Serve immediately and top with cracked black pepper, chili flakes and cheese. Enjoy!
